  • Website Builder Malaysia: Which One Should You Actually Use in 2026

Short answer: For a brochure or lead-generation site in Malaysia, WordPress on local hosting costs the least over three years, roughly RM1,700 to RM3,300 in running fees once the site is built. Wix Core runs about RM1,465 a year and Squarespace Core about RM1,132 a year at August 2026 rates. Webflow suits design-led brands with a developer on call. Nothing here is free by year two.

Every website quotation in Malaysia sits on a platform decision nobody explains. The agency says WordPress because that is what they build. The friend who did a course says Wix.

The question that matters is not which builder is best. It is which one you can still afford, still update, and still leave in three years, given who works in your office.

This article prices the five realistic routes over three years, in ringgit. Prices were checked on 22/08/2026 against each vendor’s own plan page.

The five routes a Malaysian business actually picks between

Strip out the noise and there are five. WordPress self-hosted, usually with a page builder like Elementor, on Malaysian or Singapore hosting. Wix, a hosted builder where editor and hosting are one product. Squarespace, the same model with tighter templates. Webflow, a visual editor that produces clean code but expects design training to drive it. And a custom developer build, where a team writes the front end and you own the code. Builders bundled by hosting companies behave like Wix.

The split that matters is ownership. WordPress and a custom build put files and a database in your hands. The other three rent you a slot, and what you get back if you leave is text and images, not a working site.

    Key points

    • The dividing line is whether you own the files or rent the slot.
    • Hosted builders trade control for the fact that nothing breaks on a Tuesday night.
    • Ownership only matters if someone on your side can use it.
    • Ecommerce is a separate decision with different economics.

If you plan to take payments, stop here. Cart, checkout and payment gateway change the maths, and we covered that in our guide to choosing an ecommerce website builder in Malaysia. Below assumes the goal is an enquiry, not an order.

What each route costs over three years in ringgit

Three years is the right window because most SME sites get redesigned between year three and year five. One year flatters the hosted builders, since year one is discounted.

Wix, Squarespace and Webflow bill in US dollars. At about RM4.10 to the dollar in August 2026, plus the 1% to 3% foreign transaction fee most Malaysian cards add, the ringgit cost is higher than the sticker suggests.

Route One-off build Running cost, 3 years 3-year total
Squarespace Core, you build it Your own time about RM3,400 about RM3,400
Wix Core, you build it Your own time about RM4,400 about RM4,400
    WordPress, agency build RM3,500 to RM8,000 RM1,700 to RM3,300 RM5,200 to RM11,300
Wix Core, freelancer builds it RM1,500 to RM3,500 about RM4,400 RM5,900 to RM7,900
    Webflow Premium plus designer RM3,500 to RM8,000 about RM3,700 RM7,200 to RM11,700
Custom developer build RM8,000 and up RM1,700 to RM3,300 RM9,700 and up
    RM1,465
    Wix Core per year
    RM300-RM800
    hosting per year
    RM3,500-RM8,000
    business website build

A five to ten page business website sits at RM3,500 to RM8,000 whichever platform it lands on, because the writing, photography and testing cost the same either way.

The renewal jump is the number nobody budgets for

Here is where the sticker price stops being useful. Wix advertises the yearly-billing rate: Light at $17.77 a month, Core at $29.77, Business at $39.77 and Business Elite at $159.77, checked on 22/08/2026. Pay month to month and the same tiers cost more. Squarespace runs the same pattern, Basic at $16 a month on annual billing against $25 billed monthly, and Core at $23 against $33.

Then the free domain. Both include one for the first year on annual plans. In year two you pay for it, around RM60 to RM100 depending on the extension.

So a business that signed up on promotion at RM70 a month can open its year-two statement at RM130 a month for the identical site. Nothing was upgraded. The discount ended.

Free plans are the sharper version of the same trap. A free Wix or Webflow site carries vendor branding and sits on a subdomain, so the authority you build points at their domain. The moment you want your own domain you are on a paid plan.

Who maintains the site after launch decides more than features

Ask one question first: who in your company will change the price list on a Thursday afternoon when the boss asks. The honest answer determines the platform.

Squarespace is the easiest to hand to a non-technical staff member. The templates resist being broken, and an admin assistant can swap text and images after twenty minutes of training. Wix is nearly as easy for text, though its editor lets people drag elements into a mess on mobile.

WordPress with Elementor is fine for editing existing content and dangerous for new layouts. It also carries real upkeep. Core, theme and plugin updates need applying, and a site left unpatched for a year is how Malaysian SMEs end up with pharmacy spam in their sitemap.

Webflow and custom builds assume a professional. Webflow’s editor mode lets a client change words safely, but structural changes need someone who understands the class system.

If nobody at your company will ever touch the site, a maintenance retainer is a real line item. Budget RM300 to RM800 a year for hosting on top, and read our checklist for a good business website to know what to hold that retainer to.

SEO ceilings differ more than the marketing pages admit

All five routes can rank. The gap shows at the top end, when you fight for a competitive term rather than just your own company name.

WordPress has the highest ceiling because nothing is off limits. Yoast or Rank Math give you full control of titles, canonicals, schema and robots directives. You can add custom post types for locations or services and build the internal linking that local SEO work depends on.

Webflow is close behind. Clean markup, full control of meta fields, and CMS collections that build hundreds of pages from one template. The limits are item quotas, not anything technical.

Squarespace and Wix have closed most of the old gaps. You get editable titles, descriptions, redirects and sitemaps. Where they still bite is on awkward requests: fine-grained schema, hreflang for a Bahasa Malaysia and English version of the same page, or a URL structure that fights their template logic.

For most Malaysian service businesses chasing a few dozen local terms, that ceiling sits above where you will operate. If your plan is two hundred articles and national rankings, WordPress is safer.

Page speed on Malaysian mobile connections

Ookla reported Malaysia’s median 5G download speed at 242.92 Mbps in Q3 2025, down from 451.79 Mbps in late 2023 as the network came under load. That median is comfortable. It is not what your customer gets in a basement carpark in Bukit Bintang or on 4G at a site office in Kuantan.

Design for the bad connection and the good one takes care of itself. The biggest speed factor is not the platform, it is whether someone compressed the images. A 4MB hero photo off a phone makes a Webflow site feel slower than a tuned WordPress one.

Platform still matters at the margin. Webflow produces the leanest output of the hosted builders. Squarespace is consistent but ships more JavaScript than it needs. Wix has improved and still loads a heavy application shell before your content appears. WordPress swings widest: a lean build with caching is quick, and a site with thirty plugins is the slowest thing on this list.

Test on a real device on mobile data, not on office fibre. If the phone number and the enquiry button are not usable within three seconds, the platform argument is beside the point.

Forms and WhatsApp are where Malaysian sites actually convert

Most enquiries here arrive on WhatsApp, not through a contact form. A click-to-chat link is just a link to wa.me with your number, so all five routes handle it with no plugin.

The difference is what happens after a form is submitted. On WordPress you can pipe a submission into a CRM, fire a WhatsApp API message, and push a conversion event to Google Ads and Meta with full control of the payload. On Wix and Squarespace you get their native form, an email notification, and whatever their integration list supports. Enough at twenty enquiries a month, limiting at two hundred.

    1. Decide where a lead lands. Inbox, WhatsApp, or CRM, with one owner.
    2. Test the form from a real phone. Not the preview. Submit it and check the email arrives.
    3. Tag the source. Add a hidden field for the page the form sat on.
    4. Fire a conversion event. Without it, your ad platforms are guessing, and so are you.
    5. Check it quarterly. Form notifications break silently more often than anything else on a website.

If the site’s whole job is one type of enquiry, you may not need a full website. We covered that split in website versus landing page.

What it costs to leave each platform

Exit cost separates these platforms most sharply, and nobody asks at signing. A platform you cannot leave quietly sets your budget for the next decade.

      WordPress to anywherelow
Custom build to anywherelow to medium
      Webflow to anywheremedium
      Squarespace to anywherehigh
      Wix to anywherehighest

WordPress exports a full database and file set, so moving host is a routine job a developer does in an afternoon. A custom build is portable the same way, assuming your contract says you own the code. Check that clause, because plenty do not have it.

Webflow lets you export static HTML and CSS on paid site plans, but anything driven by its CMS stops working once it leaves. You get a design to rebuild from, not a site you can run.

Squarespace and Wix are hardest to leave. Squarespace gives a partial WordPress-format export of posts and pages. Wix gives very little beyond your content in copy-paste form. In practice, leaving either means rebuilding, which is why “we will just switch later” turns into another RM3,500 to RM8,000 two years down the road.

Local hosting against overseas, and when it actually matters

Malaysian hosting sits around RM300 to RM800 a year for a business site. Cheaper plans at RM100 a year exist and you feel it in load times and in how long support takes to reply.

Three reasons to choose a Malaysian host. Support in your timezone and language, which matters when the site goes down at 9pm on a Saturday. Ringgit billing with a proper invoice. And a company with an office here if something goes badly wrong.

Two reasons to go overseas. Singapore data centres are often faster to Malaysian users than budget local shared hosting, and global providers tend to have stronger automated backups.

The hosted builders remove this decision. Wix, Squarespace and Webflow run on global infrastructure with a CDN in front, so the site loads from an edge node near the visitor. You trade the choice for convenience, and for the fact that you cannot fix a slow site by moving it.

One practical note. A .com.my needs SSM registration documents through MYNIC and renews around RM75 to RM100 a year. A .com is faster to get and renews around RM60 to RM80.

The recommendation, by type of business

Solo consultant, coach or freelancer. Squarespace, built by you over a weekend. About RM3,400 over three years, no maintenance, and the templates stop you making it ugly.

Local service business chasing enquiries. WordPress, built by an agency, RM3,500 to RM8,000 with RM1,700 to RM3,300 running cost across three years. You want the SEO headroom and the form flexibility.

Design-led brand, agency or architecture practice. Webflow, with a designer. It costs more and it looks it. Only take this route if you have budget for the person who maintains it.

Business that needs the site live next week. Wix on Core, built in-house. Priciest DIY option at about RM4,400 over three years and hardest to leave, but fastest from nothing to live.

Booking system, member area or unusual integration. Custom build, RM8,000 and up. Forcing a platform to do what it cannot do natively costs more than building it properly.

Whatever you pick, the timeline is driven by your content, not the platform. We set out the phases in how long it takes to build a business website in Malaysia.

Frequently asked questions about website builders in Malaysia

Is a free website builder ever good enough for a real business?

Only as a temporary test. Free plans put vendor branding on your pages and your site on a subdomain, so the authority you build belongs to them. The moment you want your own domain, you are paying. Treat it as a two-month experiment, not a business website.

Which website builder is cheapest over three years in Malaysia?

If you build it yourself, Squarespace Core at about RM3,400 over three years. If someone else builds it, WordPress is cheapest to run at RM1,700 to RM3,300, though the build costs RM3,500 to RM8,000. Cheapest to start and cheapest to own are rarely the same.

Can I move my Wix site to WordPress later?

Not in any meaningful sense. Wix gives you text and images, not a working site. Moving means rebuilding the design, pages and forms, another RM3,500 to RM8,000. Set up redirects from the old URLs so you keep the rankings you earned.

Do I need Malaysian hosting for my site to rank in Malaysia?

No. Google works out your market from your content, domain, Google Business Profile and links, not from where the server sits. Local hosting helps with timezone support and ringgit invoicing. Speed matters, but a CDN closes most of the distance gap.

How much does hosting and a domain cost per year in Malaysia?

Budget RM300 to RM800 a year for hosting, plus RM60 to RM80 for a .com renewal or RM75 to RM100 for a .com.my. Hosting at RM100 a year exists and you pay for it in load speed and support response times.

Is WordPress harder to maintain than Wix or Squarespace?

Yes, and that is the honest trade for the control. Core, plugin and theme updates need applying, and an unpatched site becomes a security problem within a year. Either someone in-house owns that or you pay a retainer. Wix and Squarespace patch themselves.

Why is my Wix or Squarespace bill higher in year two?

Two reasons. The first-year promotion ended, and the free domain that came with your annual plan now renews at full price. Check the renewal rate on the plan page before you sign, not the number in the advertisement.

Does Webflow make sense for a small Malaysian business?

Only if design is part of what you sell and you have someone to maintain it. Site plans run about $15 to $25 a month on annual billing, checked on 22/08/2026, and the build still needs a designer at RM3,500 to RM8,000.

Conclusion: pick for year three, not for launch week

All five platforms can produce a site that looks fine on launch day. The differences show up in the second renewal invoice, the first time a staff member updates a page, and the day you decide to move. Price the three-year total and check what leaving costs before you commit.

For most Malaysian service businesses chasing enquiries, WordPress on local hosting is still the call. Versi Bahasa Melayu di sini: buat website sendiri di Malaysia.

    • Website Builder Malaysia: Mana Satu Patut Kau Guna (2026)

Soalan sebenar bukan platform mana paling bagus.

Buang bunyi bising, tinggal lima.

Kenapa bil tahun kedua naik walaupun kau tak upgrade apa-apa

Jalan Kos bina sekali Kos berjalan 3 tahun Jumlah 3 tahun
Squarespace Core, kau bina sendiri Masa kau lebih kurang RM3,400 lebih kurang RM3,400
Wix Core, kau bina sendiri Masa kau lebih kurang RM4,400 lebih kurang RM4,400
      WordPress, dibina agency RM3,500 hingga RM8,000 RM1,700 hingga RM3,300 RM5,200 hingga RM11,300
Wix Core, freelancer bina RM1,500 hingga RM3,500 lebih kurang RM4,400 RM5,900 hingga RM7,900
Webflow Premium campur designer RM3,500 hingga RM8,000 lebih kurang RM3,700 RM7,200 hingga RM11,700
Build custom oleh developer RM8,000 ke atas RM1,700 hingga RM3,300 RM9,700 ke atas
      RM1,465
      Wix Core setahun
      RM300-RM800
      hosting setahun
      RM3,500-RM8,000
      bina business website

Test atas telefon sebenar guna data mobile, bukan atas fiber pejabat.

Bezanya apa jadi selepas borang dihantar.

      2. Test borang dari telefon sebenar. Bukan preview. Hantar dan pastikan email sampai.
      3. Tag sumber. Letak hidden field untuk page mana borang tu duduk.
      4. Trigger conversion event. Tanpa dia, platform iklan kau teka, dan kau pun teka.
      5. Semak setiap suku tahun.

Hantar detail ringkas.

Hosting Malaysia lawan hosting luar negara

Tiga sebab pilih host Malaysia.

Dua sebab pilih luar.

Daftar domain atas nama syarikat kau sendiri, bukan atas akaun agency, supaya kau tak terkunci hari kau nak tukar vendor.

        Cadangan ikut jenis business

Anggap dia eksperimen dua bulan, bukan website business.

English version here: website builder Malaysia.

Masalahnya bukan website tu hodoh.

Fakta tu ubah seluruh projek.

        Ringkasan

        • Buyer Selangor selalunya sedang sahkan supplier, bukan sedang kenal jenama baru.

Empat jenis website, pilih satu sebelum tanya harga

Business website Kilang, supplier, firma profesional Senangkan orang hantar quote request RM3,500 hingga RM8,000
Build custom Booking, member area, configurator, CRM Ganti satu proses manual dalaman RM8,000 ke atas

Majoriti SME Selangor perlukan baris ketiga.

Baris keempat tempat bajet pecah.

Studio Selangor Dalam julat Boleh datang tapak, faham klien industri Team kecil, kapasiti sempit musim sibuk

Ambil jalan freelancer bila scope kecil dan stabil: lima muka surat, satu borang contact, tiada integrasi, content kau dah tulis sendiri.

Apa kena scope sebelum minta quotation

        1. Senaraikan muka surat ikut nama. Home, about, capability, produk, sektor, sijil, contact.
        2. Tulis field borang quote sendiri. Bahan, kuantiti, lokasi penghantaran, tarikh diperlukan, upload lukisan. Field betul buang dua pusingan bertanya untuk setiap enquiry.
        3. Putuskan siapa tulis content. Copywriting baris kos berasingan.
        4. Uruskan gambar awal. Setengah hari ambil gambar kilang, mesin dan team kau kalahkan gambar stok bila procurement officer sedang menilai kau.
        5. Namakan integrasi. WhatsApp click to chat, Google Analytics, CRM, email enquiry masuk dua orang. Setiap satu baris kos.
        6. Tentukan bahasa.

Apa kena semak sebelum bayar deposit

Lepas bayar, kuasa tawar-menawar kau jatuh, jadi buat semakan dulu.

        Sebelum transfer

        • Domain, hosting dan analytics didaftar atas nama syarikat kau, bukan nama vendor. Ini perangkap paling biasa.
        • Bayaran dipecah ikut milestone: design lulus, development siap, launch.
        • Pusingan revision ditulis hitam putih.
        • Selepas launch: berapa lama support, berapa kos satu pembetulan, siapa pegang login.
Telefon mereka.

Business website penuh lima hingga sepuluh muka surat duduk RM3,500 hingga RM8,000.

Fungsi custom tambah beberapa minggu lagi.

Syarikat kau sendiri, sentiasa.

Scope projek dulu sebelum kumpul harga, sebab quotation tanpa scope tu agakan.

        • Web Design in Selangor: Costs, Scope and How to Brief It

Short answer: A business website for a Selangor SME usually costs RM3,500 to RM8,000 for a full five to ten page site, RM1,500 to RM3,500 for a single landing page, and RM8,000 upwards once booking systems or custom integrations enter the scope. Add RM300 to RM800 a year for hosting and maintenance. Most Selangor buyers need a credibility site that produces quote requests, not a consumer brand site.

Ask three vendors in Shah Alam, Klang and Puchong to quote the same website and the numbers will not line up. One says RM2,800. One says RM6,500. One says RM14,000. All three write the word “website” on the invoice.

The gap is rarely about quality. It is about what each of them assumed you wanted, and none of them asked.

This article covers what to scope before asking for a price, what the tiers cost, how a local studio compares against a KL agency and a freelancer, and what to check before the deposit leaves your account.

A Selangor web brief is usually a credibility problem, not a branding one

The businesses booking web work in Selangor mostly sit in Shah Alam, Klang, Puchong, Subang and Rawang. Trading companies, fabricators, engineering services, packaging suppliers, logistics operators, machinery agents. Their customer is another business, often one in the same few industrial parks.

That one fact reshapes the project. Someone arriving on your site has usually been handed your name by a colleague or found you searching for a specific component. They want to confirm three things quickly: that you are a real registered company, that you handle the exact work they need, and how to get a price without a phone call.

A consumer brand site exists to create desire. A Selangor B2B site exists to remove doubt. The pages that carry the weight are the capability page, the product or equipment list, the sectors served, the company registration and address, and a quote request form that asks the right questions.

This is our read of the enquiries we handle, not a published survey. Check it against your own enquiry log before accepting it.

          The short version

          • Selangor buyers are usually verifying a supplier, not discovering a brand.
          • The quote request flow matters more than the homepage animation.
          • Registration number, full address and a real phone number beat a stock photo of a handshake.

Three site types cover most Selangor businesses

Before talking price, decide which of these you are buying. Most arguments over a quotation are really arguments over which row of this table the vendor had in mind.

Site type Who it suits in Selangor The one job it must do Indicative price
Template starter New business testing an idea Exist, and look legitimate RM500 to RM800
Single landing page Contractor or service running Google Ads One offer, one form, nothing else RM1,500 to RM3,500
Business or capability site Manufacturer, supplier, professional firm Make sending a quote request easy RM3,500 to RM8,000
Custom build Booking, member area, configurator, CRM link Replace a manual internal process RM8,000 upwards

Most Selangor SMEs need the third row. The second is a campaign asset, not a company site, a split we covered in our comparison of a website against a landing page.

The fourth row is where budgets break. A booking system that checks availability and sends reminders is development work, not design work, and priced as such. If a spreadsheet still runs that process acceptably, keep it another year.

What to scope before you ask anyone for a quote

A vendor who receives no scope will guess, and the guess protects the vendor. Spend an hour on this list and the quotes come back comparable.

          1. List the pages by name. Home, about, capability, products, sectors, certifications, contact. Page count is the biggest single driver of the number you get back.
          2. Write the quote form fields yourself. Material, quantity, delivery location, required date, drawing upload. The right fields remove two rounds of back and forth per enquiry.
          3. Decide who writes the content. Most quotes in the RM3,500 to RM8,000 band assume you supply the text. Copywriting is a separate line.
          4. Sort out photos early. Half a day photographing your own plant, machines and team beats stock imagery when a procurement officer is checking you out.
          5. Name the integrations. WhatsApp click to chat, Google Analytics, a CRM, enquiry email to two people. Each is a line item.
          6. Decide on language. English only, or English with a Bahasa Melayu version. A second language roughly doubles the content work, not the design work.

If you are starting from nothing, our checklist of what makes a good business website in Malaysia is a reasonable base for the page list.

Realistic price tiers for a Selangor web project

Selangor prices sit inside the same national bands we use for the rest of Malaysia. A Selangor address does not automatically make a studio cheaper than a KL one, nor more expensive.

          Template starterRM500 – RM800
          Landing pageRM1,500 – RM3,500
          Business websiteRM3,500 – RM8,000
          Custom buildRM8,000 upwards

What moves you within a band is not page count alone. It is whether the design is custom or a customised template, how many integrations must be built, and how much content the vendor writes for you.

          RM3,500-RM8,000
          full business website
          RM1,500-RM3,500
          single landing page
          RM300-RM800
          hosting and maintenance a year

The recurring cost catches people out. Hosting and domain for an ordinary business site run RM300 to RM800 a year. Hosting at RM100 a year exists, and you feel it in load speed, which shows up in rankings and enquiries.

Selangor studio, Kuala Lumpur agency, or freelancer

Selangor businesses almost always compare these three, and the price gaps are real. The table below is our own read from quotations we have seen, not published market data.

Option Where they usually land Strongest at Where it goes wrong
Freelancer At or below the bottom of the RM3,500 to RM8,000 band Speed, direct communication, small scope One person, one holiday, one illness, project stalls
Selangor studio Inside the band Site visits, understanding industrial clients, reachable Small teams, so capacity is thin during peak months
KL agency Top of the band or above it Strategy, brand work, larger integrated projects You may be a small account, and it shows in response time

Being able to drive to your vendor matters more than it sounds for an industrial client. A studio that has walked your factory floor writes better capability copy than one working from an email thread. Against that, distance is solvable and competence is not. An agency that has built eleven supplier sites beats a studio down the road that has built two.

When a freelancer is genuinely the right call

Plenty of advice treats freelancers as the risky option by default. That is not our position. There are cases where a good freelancer is the right choice and paying agency rates is waste.

Take the freelancer route when the scope is small and stable: five pages, a contact form, no integrations, content you have already written. There is not enough work there to occupy a team, and you would mostly be paying for account management. The same applies when you need speed on a fixed deadline, like an exhibition or a tender. It also holds when somebody in your office can update WordPress and knows what a redirect is, because you do not need a maintenance retainer on top.

Go the other way when the site connects to another system, when more than three people will have opinions on the design, or when the site is the main channel bringing enquiries in. Continuity is what you buy at agency rates, and continuity is what one person cannot promise.

Local SEO changes when your catchment crosses into Kuala Lumpur

This is the part most Selangor businesses get wrong. Your registered address is in Shah Alam, but half your customers sit in Cheras, Sri Petaling and KL city centre. Google treats distance from the searcher as a ranking factor it will not let you override, so a Section 15 address will not win a search made in Bukit Bintang.

Two structural fixes help. If you have no walk-in shopfront, Google’s service-area guidance lets you hide the address and set service areas instead, up to 20 areas by city or postcode. That is the honest way to say your catchment is wider than your pin sits.

The second fix is on the website. Give the areas you genuinely serve their own pages with real differences on them, not a template with the town name swapped. A Klang page should mention the port, the industries around it and jobs you have done there. Twenty thin pages named after every town in the Klang Valley will not rank and may drag the site down.

Both of those sit inside the build, so raise them during scoping rather than after launch. Our practical guide to local SEO for Malaysian businesses covers the profile setup in detail.

What to check before you pay the deposit

Deposits here usually run between a third and half of the project value. Once paid, your bargaining position weakens, so do the checks first.

          Before the transfer

          • Domain, hosting and analytics registered in your company name, not the vendor’s. The most common trap.
          • Payment split across milestones: design approval, development complete, launch.
          • Revision rounds stated in writing. Two to three rounds at design stage is normal for an SME project.
          • Who supplies content, spelled out, including who writes the service pages.
          • After launch: how long support lasts, what a fix costs, who holds the logins.
          • Two contactable past clients, ideally in a similar trade. Call them.

One more question separates vendors fast: what happens if we move to another provider in two years. One who answers plainly and offers to hand over files expects to keep you on merit. One who turns vague has built a lock-in nobody told you about.

Timeline, maintenance, and the months after launch

A five to ten page business site is normally a four to eight week job when the client returns content and feedback on time. Most delays sit on the client side, and the usual culprit is content nobody was told to write.

Book the photography and write the service page copy while development runs in parallel. Waiting until the build is finished to start on content turns a six week project into four months, as we set out in our guide to how long it takes to build a business website in Malaysia.

After launch the running cost is RM300 to RM800 a year for hosting and domain, plus whatever you arrange for updates. WordPress and plugin updates need doing, and doing them badly breaks sites. Put it in a retainer or assign it internally, but do not assume it happens by itself.

Plan on three to five years before a redesign, and watch the signals rather than the calendar. Slow loading on a phone, enquiries falling while traffic holds steady, or reluctance to send the link to a prospect are all in our list of signs your website needs a redesign.

Frequently asked questions about web design in Selangor

How much does web design in Selangor cost for a small business?

A full business website of five to ten pages runs RM3,500 to RM8,000. A single landing page for an ads campaign runs RM1,500 to RM3,500. Anything with a booking system or custom integration starts at RM8,000. Add RM300 to RM800 a year for hosting and maintenance.

Is a Selangor web designer cheaper than a Kuala Lumpur agency?

Often, but the gap is smaller than people expect. In our experience comparing quotations, freelancers land at or below the bottom of the RM3,500 to RM8,000 band, Selangor studios inside it, and KL agencies at the top or above. The overlap is wide, so compare scope line by line rather than assuming a postcode sets the price.

Should I hire a freelancer or a studio for my Shah Alam business?

A freelancer is the right call for a small stable scope: five pages, a contact form, no integrations, content already written, and someone internally who can handle updates. Choose a studio when the site connects to other systems, when the project runs past six weeks, or when the website is your main source of enquiries.

How long does a business website take to build in Selangor?

Four to eight weeks for a five to ten page site, assuming you return content and feedback promptly. Custom functionality adds weeks on top. The usual cause of delay is content, so assign the writing and book the photography at the start rather than after the design is approved.

Can a Shah Alam business rank in Google for Kuala Lumpur searches?

Not easily for searches made inside KL, because Google treats distance between the searcher and your address as a ranking factor you cannot override. What you can do is set service areas on your Google Business Profile if you have no walk-in shopfront, and build genuine pages for the areas you serve, with real project details on them.

Who should own the domain and hosting after the site is built?

Your company, always. Register the domain, hosting and analytics accounts in your business name from day one, even if the vendor manages them daily. If the vendor holds these under their own account, moving to another provider later becomes slow, expensive, or impossible without rebuilding.

What should be in a website quote request form for a B2B supplier?

Ask for what your sales team needs before they can price anything: material or product type, quantity, delivery location, required date, and a file upload for drawings. A form that only collects name, email and a message box guarantees two rounds of follow-up before you can quote.

How many revision rounds should I expect on a Selangor web project?

Two to three rounds at the design stage is normal for an SME project. Timing matters more than the count. Changing layout at mockup stage is cheap. Asking for structural change after development has started means finished work is thrown away and rebuilt, which is where overruns come from.

Conclusion: getting web design right in Selangor

Scope the project before you collect prices, because a quote without a scope is a guess. Budget RM3,500 to RM8,000 for a proper business site, RM1,500 to RM3,500 if a landing page does the job this year, and RM300 to RM800 a year to keep it running. Choose the vendor on relevant work and continuity rather than on distance from your office.

          • Ecommerce Website Builder Malaysia: How to Choose in 2026

Short answer: Most Malaysian SMEs should shortlist three options, not six. WooCommerce if you want the lowest running cost and someone technical nearby, EasyStore from RM139 a month if you want a Malaysian platform with local payment and e-Invoice built in, and Shopify if you sell abroad. Marketplace-only on Shopee and Lazada costs up to 18.5% of every sale once fees and SST are counted.

Most comparisons of ecommerce builders written for Malaysia are really comparisons written for the United States, with the word Malaysia added to the title. The features they weigh are not the ones that decide anything here.

What decides it here is narrower. Which payment gateway connects without a developer. Whether the platform pushes a consolidated e-invoice to MyInvois before the seventh of the month. Whether courier rates appear at checkout. Whether it still works when the person who built it stops answering messages.

Prices below were checked in August 2026 and move often, so treat them as a starting point for your own quote.

The six routes a Malaysian SME actually picks between

Every real decision lands on one of six options, and three get ignored in most articles.

WooCommerce. A free plugin on WordPress, on hosting you rent. You own the database and files. You also own every update, backup and broken plugin.

Shopify. Hosted, foreign, priced in US dollars. Fastest route to a working store, strongest app ecosystem, weakest fit for Malaysian payment because Shopify Payments does not operate here.

EasyStore. A Malaysian platform priced in ringgit, with local gateways and MyInvois submission native rather than bolted on.

SiteGiant. Also Malaysian, built for sellers listing on Shopee, Lazada and TikTok Shop at once who need one stock pool behind all of them.

Wix. A website builder with a store attached. Fine for a brochure site selling five products, tight once you have variants, bundles and real inventory.

No website at all. Sell purely on Shopee and Lazada, take the traffic, pay the commission. For many sellers this is the right answer in year one, and nobody says so.

BigCommerce and Squarespace work technically, but Malaysian gateway support and local agency familiarity are thin enough that you pay for it later.

What each option costs per month in ringgit

Platform fees are what everyone compares and what matters least once volume arrives. Here is the honest floor for each.

Option Platform cost Extra transaction fee Realistic monthly total
WooCommerce Plugin free, hosting RM20 to RM100 None from the platform RM50 to RM250
            Shopify Basic USD25 monthly, USD19 paid yearly 2% on third-party gateways RM150 to RM400
            Shopify Grow USD65 monthly, USD49 paid yearly 1% on third-party gateways RM300 to RM700
EasyStore Standard RM139 0% from the platform RM139 to RM300
EasyStore Business RM279 0% from the platform RM279 to RM450
SiteGiant Quoted, not published No setup fee, no transaction fee Ask for a written quote
Wix Core USD29 billed annually Gateway rate only RM160 to RM350
Shopee and Lazada only RM0 Commission plus 2.16% plus SST Scales with sales

Shopify and EasyStore prices come from their own published pricing pages. SiteGiant publishes none, which is itself a difference: you cannot compare what you cannot see, so get a written quote. Build cost sits outside all of this, and we break that down in the Malaysian pricing guide.

Payment gateways narrow the shortlist faster than features

Malaysian shoppers use FPX and e-wallets far more than cards. A checkout without FPX loses sales, so gateway support is the first filter, not the last.

Gateway FPX Local card Setup and recurring
toyyibPay RM1.00 per transaction 1.5% RM100 card onboarding, RM100 a year from year two
Billplz RM1.25 per transaction 1.8% None
            senangPay 1.5% or RM1.00 2.5% plus RM0.65 From RM199 a year
iPay88 Supported, quoted per merchant Roughly 2% to 3% Setup fee, quoted
            Stripe 3% plus RM1.00 2.9% None, RM90 per dispute

Ownership here moves. iPay88 operated as ADAPTIS after acquisition and was renamed NTT DATA eCommerce Solutions Sdn Bhd in 2025, so confirm the legal entity on your merchant agreement. That is the position as of checking in August 2026.

Stripe is the expensive way to take FPX and the cheap way to take foreign cards. If your revenue is mostly domestic FPX, a local gateway at RM1.00 flat beats 3% plus RM1.00 on every order above about RM70.

WooCommerce and EasyStore connect to the full local set without custom work. Shopify connects through apps and adds its own fee on top, 2% on Basic and 1% on Grow. Wix has the thinnest Malaysian gateway list here, which is why it drops off most shortlists.

Courier and shipping rates are close to a tie

Shipping used to separate these platforms. It mostly does not any more, because EasyParcel sits between the store and the couriers for almost everyone. It has an official WooCommerce plugin pulling live rates into checkout, EasyStore and SiteGiant integrate couriers natively, and Shopify connects through apps. The difference is how much you configure yourself.

            1. Decide the rate model first. Flat rate, free above a threshold, or live courier rates. Live rates cause the most support tickets because a quote can differ from the actual charge.
            2. Check East Malaysia separately. Sabah and Sarawak rates quietly kill margin. Test a Kota Kinabalu postcode before launch, not after.
            3. Test bulky and light items. Volumetric weight means a large light box can cost more than a small heavy one.
            4. Confirm tracking flows back. If tracking numbers do not sync into order emails, you answer that by hand daily.

If your catalogue is one product size, this barely matters. If you sell furniture, chilled food or anything oversized, it decides the platform, so test it during the trial rather than after paying a year up front.

Not sure which platform fits your numbers?Send your order volume, gateway needs and catalogue size, and we will say which route is cheapest over three years.

            Book free consultation

SST and LHDN e-Invoice land differently on each platform

Service tax is 8% standard rate, and registration is required once taxable revenue passes RM500,000 in a rolling twelve-month period. That window rolls rather than following the calendar year, which catches more sellers than owners expect.

The e-Invoice timeline matters more. Under the current LHDN schedule, revenue between RM1 million and RM5 million came in from 1 January 2026, and up to RM1 million from 1 July 2026. Under RM500,000 is exempt for now. Consolidated e-invoices must reach MyInvois within seven calendar days after month end.

            What this means per platform

            • EasyStore has a direct MyInvois integration, including buyer requests at checkout and monthly consolidated submission.
            • WooCommerce needs a plugin or middleware. It works, but somebody has to own it.
            • Shopify needs a third-party e-invoicing app, since MyInvois is not part of its core product.
            • On Shopee and Lazada the platform issues the e-invoice for sales made there, and you are exempt for that channel only.

That last point is the one people misread. The exemption covers the marketplace channel. If you also sell on your own site, through WhatsApp, or at a counter, those sales are yours to invoice.

Selling only on Shopee and Lazada, and what it really costs

Skipping the website entirely is a legitimate strategy and deserves real numbers. Shopee Malaysia commission rose as high as 15% in some categories from late 2025, with further adjustments in May and August 2026. On top sits a 2.16% transaction fee, and all of it carries 8% SST, so a seller in a 15% category gives up roughly 18.5% of order value. Lazada went to as much as 22.5% from 1 November 2025.

            Shopee, 15% category18.5%
            Lazada, top clusterup to 22.5%
Own store, FPX at RM1.00about 1%
Own store, local card1.5% to 2.5%

On a RM100 average order, a marketplace seller in a 15% category loses about RM18.50 in fees where an EasyStore seller on FPX loses about RM1.00. The RM139 plan pays for itself at roughly eight orders a month.

What that difference leaves out is traffic. Shopee and Lazada hand you buyers. Your own store does not, so you spend the saved commission on ads, SEO and content. Marketplace fees are a customer acquisition cost at a fixed price, and in year one most sellers cannot beat 18.5% of order value.

            WooCommerce against Shopify, in short

WooCommerce wins on running cost and control. You pay hosting instead of a subscription, connect Malaysian gateways with no platform surcharge, and keep your data. You pay for that with maintenance that never stops.

Shopify wins on speed and reliability. Live in days, apps for almost anything, no 2am server problems. You pay a US dollar subscription plus a third-party gateway fee. The full version, with three-year cost of ownership, is in our WooCommerce versus Shopify breakdown.

Who maintains the store when something breaks

            RM139
            EasyStore entry plan per month
            18.5%
Shopee fees on a 15% category sale with SST
            RM1.00
            toyyibPay FPX per transaction

Maintenance ownership predicts better than anything else whether a store is still healthy two years after launch. On EasyStore, Shopify, SiteGiant and Wix the platform maintains itself. You rent stability.

On WooCommerce somebody must patch WordPress, update plugins, keep backups and fix the conflict two plugins cause when they update the same week. If that is you, budget the hours. If it is an agency, the retainer belongs inside your monthly comparison. A store with no clear maintenance owner ends up broken and unnoticed. Our business website checklist covers what to verify before launch, and the ecommerce design guide covers what the storefront itself has to do.

How hard each platform is to leave

Nobody plans to migrate, and plenty of stores do. Exit cost belongs in the decision.

Platform What exports cleanly What you lose Difficulty
WooCommerce Everything, it is your database Nothing structural Low
Shopify Products, customers, orders via CSV Theme, apps, URL structure Medium
EasyStore Products, customers, orders Theme, native integrations Medium
SiteGiant Products and orders Marketplace sync setup, stock rules Medium to high
Wix Products and contacts, partially Site design entirely High
Marketplace only Nothing usable Your entire buyer relationship Highest

The marketplace row matters most. Shopee and Lazada do not hand over buyer contact details in usable form. Sell there three years and you have revenue history but no audience you can reach directly. That is the real cost of marketplace-only, and it appears on no fee schedule.

The recommendation by business type and order volume

            Situation Monthly orders Pick Why
Testing a product, no brand yet Under 30 Shopee and Lazada only Free traffic beats fee savings at this volume
Small domestic brand, wants own customers 30 to 200 EasyStore Standard RM139, local gateways, MyInvois built in
Content-led brand, SEO is the plan 50 to 500 WooCommerce Best control of URLs, content and cost, if maintenance is owned
Marketplaces and own site together 100 plus SiteGiant or EasyStore Business One stock pool across channels stops overselling
Exporting, foreign card revenue Any Shopify Grow 1% third-party fee and Stripe make sense once revenue is foreign
Five products beside a service business Under 20 Wix Core, or WooCommerce if you already run WordPress Not worth a dedicated platform
Above RM5 million revenue 500 plus Shopify Advanced or custom Compliance and integration needs outgrow SME tools

People argue with the first row. Starting on marketplaces feels like giving up, and it is not. It is buying customer discovery at a known price while you find out whether the product sells. Build the site in year two, and read how long a build takes before promising yourself a launch date.

Frequently asked questions about ecommerce website builders in Malaysia

Which ecommerce platform is cheapest for a Malaysian SME?

WooCommerce has the lowest platform cost, since the plugin is free and hosting runs RM20 to RM100 a month. That excludes maintenance. Once you add an agency retainer or your own hours, EasyStore at RM139 a month is often cheaper for a business without technical staff.

Can I use Shopify Payments in Malaysia?

No. Shopify Payments does not operate in Malaysia as of checking in August 2026, so merchants here use a third-party gateway such as Billplz, iPay88 or Stripe. Shopify then adds its own platform fee on those transactions, 2% on Basic and 1% on Grow, on top of the gateway rate.

Does EasyStore handle LHDN e-Invoice automatically?

EasyStore has a direct MyInvois integration supporting buyer e-invoice requests at checkout, status tracking and monthly consolidated submission. It still needs configuring with your TIN and business details, and accuracy stays your responsibility, but the plumbing is native rather than a plugin you maintain.

How much do Shopee and Lazada actually take per sale?

Shopee marketplace commission reached as high as 15% in some categories, plus a 2.16% transaction fee, and all fees carry 8% SST. That is roughly 18.5% of order value in a 15% category. Lazada raised commission to as much as 22.5% from November 2025.

Which payment gateway should a small Malaysian store start with?

toyyibPay or Billplz for a domestic store, because FPX at RM1.00 to RM1.25 flat beats percentage pricing on most order values. Add Stripe only if you take real foreign card revenue. senangPay sits in between, with an annual fee from RM199 and card rates around 2.5%.

Do I need SST registration to sell online in Malaysia?

Registration is required once taxable revenue passes RM500,000 in any rolling twelve-month period, at the 8% standard service tax rate. Because the window rolls rather than following the calendar year, check your trailing twelve months monthly instead of once at year end.

Is it worth building a website if I already sell well on Shopee?

Yes, once your fee bill exceeds what traffic would cost you directly. At a RM100 average order and roughly 18.5% in fees, 100 orders a month sends about RM1,850 to the marketplace. That is a real marketing budget, and the website also gives you a customer list.

Can I run one inventory across my website and marketplaces?

Yes. SiteGiant is built around exactly this, and EasyStore’s higher plans support multichannel sync. Without it you will oversell, because a marketplace order and a website order can claim the same last unit within seconds. Manual updates across three channels stop working past roughly 100 orders a month.

Conclusion: pick by order volume, not by feature list

Under 30 orders a month, marketplaces beat any website you could build. Between 30 and 200, EasyStore at RM139 gives you Malaysian payment and MyInvois without hiring anyone. Past that, it turns on whether you have someone to maintain WooCommerce or would rather rent stability from Shopify.

Whichever you pick, price the exit before you sign, and confirm gateway rates directly because they move. Versi Bahasa Melayu di sini: Platform Kedai Online Malaysia.

For a second opinion on your own numbers, tell us your order volume and catalogue and we will say what we would build.

            • Platform Kedai Online Malaysia: Macam Mana Nak Pilih (2026)

Jawapan ringkas: Kebanyakan SME Malaysia sepatutnya tinggalkan tiga pilihan je, bukan enam.

WooCommerce. Plugin percuma atas WordPress, jalan atas hosting yang kau sewa. Database dan file semua milik kau. Update, backup dan plugin rosak pun milik kau.

Shopify. Hosted, syarikat luar, harga dalam dolar. Paling laju nak dapatkan kedai yang berfungsi, ekosistem app paling kuat, paling lemah untuk payment Malaysia sebab Shopify Payments tak beroperasi di sini.

EasyStore. Platform Malaysia, harga dalam ringgit, gateway tempatan dan hantaran MyInvois memang built-in, bukan tampal kemudian.

SiteGiant.

Billplz RM1.25 satu transaksi 1.8% Tiada
              senangPay 1.5% atau RM1.00 2.5% campur RM0.65 Dari RM199 setahun
iPay88 Ada, harga ikut quotation Lebih kurang 2% hingga 3% Ada setup fee, ikut quotation
              Stripe 3% campur RM1.00 2.9% Tiada, RM90 setiap dispute

Dua perkara pasal jadual tu.

Pilihan Kos platform Fi transaksi tambahan Total realistik sebulan
WooCommerce Plugin percuma, hosting RM20 hingga RM100 Tiada dari platform RM50 hingga RM250
Shopify Basic USD25 bulanan, USD19 kalau bayar tahunan 2% atas gateway pihak ketiga RM150 hingga RM400
Shopify Grow USD65 bulanan, USD49 kalau bayar tahunan 1% atas gateway pihak ketiga RM300 hingga RM700
              EasyStore Standard RM139 0% dari platform RM139 hingga RM300
              EasyStore Business RM279 0% dari platform RM279 hingga RM450
SiteGiant Ikut quotation, tak diumumkan Tiada setup fee, tiada fi transaksi Minta quotation bertulis
Wix Core USD29 bil tahunan Rate gateway sahaja RM160 hingga RM350

Dulu integrasi penghantaran memang bezakan platform.

Jadual e-Invoice lagi penting.

              Apa maksudnya ikut platform

              • Shopify perlukan app e-invoicing pihak ketiga sebab MyInvois bukan sebahagian produk teras dia.

Lazada pula naik sampai setinggi 22.5% mulai 1 November 2025.

              Shopee, kategori 15%18.5%
              Lazada, cluster tertinggisehingga 22.5%
Kedai sendiri, FPX RM1.00lebih kurang 1%
Kedai sendiri, kad tempatan1.5% hingga 2.5%

Cuba kira.

              RM139
              pelan mula EasyStore sebulan
              18.5%
              potongan Shopee sekali dengan SST
              RM1.00
              toyyibPay FPX satu transaksi

Siapa pegang maintenance adalah petunjuk paling kuat sama ada kedai tu masih sihat dua tahun selepas launch. Atas EasyStore, Shopify, SiteGiant dan Wix, platform jaga diri sendiri. Kau sewa kestabilan.

Shopify Produk, customer, order guna CSV Theme, app, struktur URL Sederhana
EasyStore Produk, customer, order Theme, integrasi native Sederhana

              Keadaan Order sebulan Pilih Kenapa
Brand kecil, pasaran tempatan, nak customer sendiri 30 hingga 200 EasyStore Standard RM139, gateway tempatan, MyInvois dah siap

Lazada naikkan komisen sampai setinggi 22.5% mulai November 2025.

Gateway mana kedai kecil Malaysia patut mula?

English version here: Ecommerce Website Builder Malaysia.

              • Ecommerce Website Design in Malaysia: What a Proper Build Includes

Short answer: Ecommerce website design in Malaysia means building a selling system, not a set of pretty pages. A working store needs product pages that answer buyer questions, a checkout tuned for FPX and e-wallets, shipping rates that split Peninsular from Sabah and Sarawak, and a mobile build that loads inside 2.5 seconds. Budget RM4,000 to RM8,000 for a starter store, RM8,000 to RM20,000 once the integrations are real.

Two quotations land in the same week. One says RM3,000 and promises a store in fourteen days. The other says RM15,000 and asks for six weeks. Both use the word ecommerce, and neither explains what the difference buys.

The gap is rarely visual. It sits in the parts a customer never notices until they fail: stock that does not deduct, a shipping rate that quotes Klang Valley pricing to a buyer in Sibu, a checkout that dies on patchy 4G in a basement car park.

Ecommerce website design covers a system, not a set of pages

A company profile website has one job. Someone reads it, believes you, and picks up the phone. If a form breaks, you lose one enquiry and never find out.

An online store moves money. It takes payment, deducts stock, generates a consignment note, emails a tracking number, and holds a customer’s home address. Four systems that fail independently and have to be tested against each other.

So the brief runs longer. Your designer decides how a variant selector behaves when a size is out of stock, and what the buyer sees when payment times out. Most broken stores we get called into are not ugly. Nobody decided what happens in the awkward cases.

                The short version

                • Ecommerce design is mostly decisions about failure states, not layouts.
                • Payment, stock, shipping and notification are four systems, not one feature.
                • The cheap quotation is cheap because those decisions were skipped.

The page set a Malaysian online store needs before launch

Template demos show a homepage, a product page and a cart, then stop. A store that can trade needs more, and several of the extras exist for trust reasons rather than sales reasons.

Page What it has to do Common mistake
Category and filter pages Let buyers narrow by price, size, availability Filters that reload the whole page
Product page Answer every question that would stop a purchase Two photos and one line of copy
Cart and checkout Take payment with the fewest fields possible Forced account registration
Shipping policy State cost, zones and lead time as numbers Vague “3 to 7 working days”, no zones
Returns and refunds Say who pays return postage, and how long Copied from a US template
Contact and order tracking Show SSM name, address, WhatsApp, order status A form with no phone number

Buyers here read the contact page more than most markets do. A registered business name, a real address and a WhatsApp number beat any trust badge graphic, the same signals our business website checklist covers.

Product page anatomy that answers the buyer’s real questions

This is the page most template builds treat as an afterthought. Every unspoken question you leave unanswered is a reason to close the tab.

                1. Photos that show scale. Five to eight images: front, back, detail, in use, and one beside a familiar object. Buyers ask “besar mana” constantly, and millimetres do not answer it.
                2. Price with tax status stated. Say whether the figure includes SST. Ambiguity here causes abandonment two steps later.
                3. Variant selector that reflects stock. Sold-out sizes visibly disabled, not silently rejected after add to cart.
                4. Delivery estimate by zone. West Malaysia 2 to 4 working days, East Malaysia 4 to 7, beats a generic promise.
                5. Shipping cost, or a way to see it. Hiding postage until the last step is the largest single cause of abandoned carts.
                6. Returns terms in one sentence, plus real reviews. Five reviews with names outperform a five-star graphic with none.

Checkout is where the money leaks out of a Malaysian store

The Baymard Institute puts average documented cart abandonment at 70.22%. That includes browsers who were never going to buy, but the reasons given by people who reached checkout are specific and fixable.

Extra costs too high (shipping, tax, fees)40%
                Delivery was too slow20%
Did not trust the site with card details19%
                Site forced account creation18%
                Checkout too long or complicated17%

Read that as a design brief. Show shipping cost early, offer guest checkout, keep the form to name, phone, address and payment, and put payment logos where a nervous buyer sees them before typing card numbers.

One Malaysian specific: put the mobile number field before email and make it required. Couriers here call before delivery, so an order without a working number becomes a failed delivery and a refund.

Test your own checkout on a real phone, on mobile data, at your busiest hour. Desktop testing on office wifi hides most of the problems costing you orders.

Payment gateway choice changes what the checkout looks like

Malaysia is not a card-first market. FPX online banking carries a large share of store payments and e-wallets take another slice, so bank selection belongs at the front of the checkout instead of buried under a card form.

Fees differ enough to matter at volume. DHL Malaysia’s gateway comparison lists senangPay with no setup fee, RM149 to RM299 a year, FPX at 1.5% or a minimum of RM1 and cards at 2.5%; Billplz with FPX at RM0.70 to RM3 flat per transaction and cards at 1.5% to 3.5%. Gateway pricing changes often, so confirm current rates before signing.

Flat-fee FPX suits low order values, percentage pricing suits high ones. Approval also takes time: gateways want SSM documents and a company bank account before releasing live keys, so start that paperwork in week one.

Courier integration and shipping across Peninsular, Sabah and Sarawak

Shipping carries the biggest hidden cost in the build, because the three common models take very different amounts of work.

                Shipping model Build effort Suits
Flat rate nationwide Hours Light, uniform products in one flyer size
Zone plus weight bands Days, plus product data entry Most Malaysian stores
Live courier API rates Full integration and ongoing upkeep Heavy, bulky or irregular items

Zone plus weight is the sensible default, and it only works if every product carries an accurate weight and dimension. That data entry usually lands on you, not the developer, and it delays launch more than any other step.

East Malaysia deserves its own rule rather than a surcharge bolted on later. Sabah and Sarawak rates run materially higher, and a store that discovers this after launch either eats the difference or starts refunding orders. Aggregators such as EasyParcel let a smaller store compare couriers and print labels without integrating each carrier separately.

Mobile speed decides how a Malaysian store performs

The Department of Statistics Malaysia’s ICT Use and Access Survey 2025 reported mobile phone usage among individuals at 99.6% and internet usage at 98.3%, with 94.6% of users searching online for information on goods and services. Phones are not a segment of your traffic. They are your traffic.

                99.6%
                mobile phone usage, DOSM 2025
                70%
                average cart abandonment
                2.5s
                LCP target on mobile

Google publishes the targets, so there is nothing to argue about. Its Core Web Vitals guidance sets Largest Contentful Paint at 2.5 seconds or less, Interaction to Next Paint at 200 milliseconds or less, and Cumulative Layout Shift at 0.1 or less, measured at the 75th percentile of page loads.

Stores fail those for boring reasons: photos uploaded 4000 pixels wide, eight plugins on every page load, hosting in the wrong region. Filters should open full-screen, add-to-cart should stay under the thumb, and phone and postcode fields should trigger the numeric keypad. If your store already trades, our guide on signs a website needs a redesign covers fix versus rebuild.

Price display, SST and the e-Invoice question

Two compliance items shape how a Malaysian store shows numbers, and both are cheaper to build in than to retrofit.

Sales tax applies at 5% or 10% depending on the goods, and service tax sits at 8% for most services, with 6% for certain categories including food and beverage and logistics. Registration is generally required once taxable turnover passes RM500,000 over twelve months. If you are registered, decide during design whether displayed prices include tax, then say so on the product page and in the cart.

On e-invoicing, LHDN’s phased rollout brought businesses with turnover between RM1 million and RM5 million into scope on 1 January 2026, with a relaxation period to 30 June 2026, while businesses below RM1 million turnover are currently exempt. These dates have been revised more than once, so confirm your own position with LHDN or your tax agent rather than trusting any article, this one included.

Even if you are exempt today, ask whether the platform can export order data in a format an e-invoice provider accepts. Crossing a threshold later is a good problem, and planning for it now is cheap.

What separates a RM3,000 template job from a RM15,000 build

Both quotations honestly describe different work. The cheap one installs a theme, loads products and connects one gateway. The expensive one designs the flows, integrates properly, and tests the failure cases.

What you get Around RM3,000 Around RM15,000
Design Stock theme, colours swapped Custom category, product and checkout layouts
Products loaded Usually 20, then extra charge Full catalogue with variants and weights
Payment One gateway, default checkout FPX, cards and e-wallets, checkout built around them
Shipping Flat rate Zones, weight bands, East Malaysia rules
Speed work None Image pipeline, caching, Core Web Vitals tested
Testing One successful order Failed payments, refunds, out of stock, multi-item
Handover Login details Training, documentation, support window

Our ranges follow that table. A starter store runs RM4,000 to RM8,000, a store with real integrations and zone-based shipping runs RM8,000 to RM20,000, and maintenance runs roughly RM100 to RM500 a month once you trade. For where that sits in overall spend, see our Malaysian marketing pricing guide.

Platform choice changes the ongoing bill more than the build. Shopify’s Malaysian pricing page currently lists plans in US dollars, from US$25 a month for Basic on monthly billing to US$399 for Advanced, so your ringgit cost moves with the exchange rate. WooCommerce charges no platform fee but you carry hosting and upkeep, a trade-off we work through in our WooCommerce versus Shopify guide.

How to brief a builder and read the quotation properly

Bad ecommerce projects here usually start with a vague brief, not a bad developer.

                1. Count your SKUs honestly. A shirt in five sizes and four colours is twenty combinations, not one product. This number drives price more than design does.
                2. Decide the shipping model. Flat, zone plus weight, or live rates. Name it in the brief.
                3. Name the payment methods. Each addition is separate setup and separate testing.
                4. State who enters product data. If it is the developer, it belongs in the quotation. If it is you, block the time.
                5. Ask what happens after launch. Who fixes a broken checkout at 9pm Saturday, and at what cost.
                6. Request the test list. Any serious builder can show the scenarios they test. If they cannot produce one, they are not testing.

A template store goes live in two to three weeks; an integrated build usually needs six to ten, most of it data and testing rather than design, as our article on how long a business website takes to build sets out.

Frequently asked questions about ecommerce website design in Malaysia

How much does ecommerce website design cost in Malaysia?

A starter store with a small catalogue, one payment gateway and flat-rate shipping runs RM4,000 to RM8,000. A store with several payment methods, courier integration and zone-based shipping runs RM8,000 to RM20,000. Template installs around RM3,000 exist, but they skip integration and testing rather than doing them cheaply.

What pages does a Malaysian online store need at launch?

Homepage, category pages with filters, product pages, cart and checkout, shipping policy, returns and refund policy, contact showing your SSM name and address, and order tracking. Policy and contact pages carry more weight here than owners expect, because buyers read them before entering card details.

Should my checkout put FPX before credit cards?

Yes for most Malaysian stores. FPX online banking carries a large share of local store payments and usually costs less per transaction than cards. Show bank selection prominently instead of defaulting to a card form, and keep cards and e-wallets visible as alternatives rather than hiding them.

Why do so many carts get abandoned at checkout?

The Baymard Institute puts average documented cart abandonment at 70.22%. Among people who reach checkout, 40% cite extra costs such as shipping and fees, 19% do not trust the site with card details, 18% object to forced account creation, and 17% find the checkout too long.

How fast should my ecommerce site load?

Google’s Core Web Vitals guidance sets Largest Contentful Paint at 2.5 seconds or less, Interaction to Next Paint at 200 milliseconds or less, and Cumulative Layout Shift at 0.1 or less, measured at the 75th percentile of page loads. Oversized product images cause most failures.

Do I need to show SST on my product prices?

If your business is SST registered, decide during design whether displayed prices include tax, then state it on the product page and in the cart. Sales tax applies at 5% or 10% depending on goods, service tax at 8% for most services. Registration generally starts above RM500,000 turnover.

Does e-invoicing apply to my online store?

Under LHDN’s phased rollout, businesses with turnover between RM1 million and RM5 million came into scope on 1 January 2026 with relaxation until 30 June 2026, and businesses below RM1 million turnover are currently exempt. These dates have been revised before, so confirm your position with LHDN.

How long does an ecommerce build take in Malaysia?

A template store with a small catalogue can go live in two to three weeks. A properly integrated build with zone-based shipping, several payment methods and a full catalogue usually takes six to ten weeks. Most of that goes to product data entry and testing rather than visual design.

Conclusion: what good ecommerce website design in Malaysia looks like

A store that works is one where somebody made the boring decisions before launch. Shipping zones set for Sabah and Sarawak, FPX ahead of cards, guest checkout on, product weights entered, and a tested list of what happens when a payment fails. That is the real gap between a RM3,000 template install and a RM8,000 to RM20,000 build.

Versi Bahasa Melayu di sini: reka bentuk website ecommerce Malaysia.

If you want a second opinion on a quotation before signing it, talk to the Lesgo Media team and we will tell you which line items are missing.

                • Reka Bentuk Website Ecommerce Malaysia: Apa Yang Betul-Betul Perlu Ada

Satu lagi kata RM15,000, minta enam minggu.

Orang baca, percaya, angkat telefon. Kalau satu form rosak, kau hilang satu enquiry dan selalunya tak sedar pun.

Kedai online pindah duit.

Designer kau sebenarnya buat keputusan pasal apa jadi bila satu saiz habis stok, dan apa pembeli nampak bila payment timeout separuh jalan. Kebanyakan kedai rosak yang kami kena masuk baiki bukannya hodoh. Cuma tiada siapa putuskan apa patut jadi dalam kes janggal.

                  Ringkasan

                  • Quotation murah jadi murah sebab keputusan tu semua dilangkau.

Demo template tunjuk homepage, satu product page, satu cart, habis.

                  Page Kerja dia Kesilapan biasa

                  1. Gambar yang tunjuk saiz sebenar. Lima hingga lapan gambar: depan, belakang, detail, sedang digunakan, dan satu bersebelahan objek biasa. Orang tanya “besar mana” tiap-tiap hari, dan angka milimeter tak jawab soalan tu.
                  2. Harga dengan status cukai. Tulis sama ada harga tu dah termasuk SST. Kabur di sini jadi masalah dua langkah kemudian.
                  3. Variant selector yang ikut stok. Saiz habis kena nampak disabled, bukan ditolak senyap lepas customer tekan add to cart.
                  4. Anggaran penghantaran ikut zon. Semenanjung 2 hingga 4 hari bekerja, Sabah Sarawak 4 hingga 7, lagi baik daripada janji umum.
                  5. Kos penghantaran, atau cara nak tengok. Sorok kos pos sampai langkah terakhir adalah punca tunggal terbesar cart ditinggalkan.

Kos tambahan terlalu tinggi (pos, cukai, fee)40%
                  Penghantaran terlalu lambat20%
Tak percaya nak masuk detail kad19%
                  Wajib buka akaun dulu18%

Hantar URL kedai kau.

                  Book free consultation

Pilihan payment gateway ubah rupa checkout kau

Kelulusan merchant pun makan masa. Gateway minta dokumen SSM dan akaun bank syarikat sebelum lepas live key, jadi mula kerja kertas tu pada minggu pertama projek.

Integrasi courier dan rate penghantaran Semenanjung, Sabah dan Sarawak

Shipping bawa kos tersembunyi paling besar dalam build, sebab tiga model biasa ni ambil jumlah kerja yang jauh berbeza.

Model penghantaran Kerja bina Sesuai untuk
Flat rate satu Malaysia Beberapa jam Barang ringan dan sama saiz
Zon plus band berat Berhari, plus kemasukan data produk Kebanyakan kedai Malaysia

Telefon bukan satu segmen trafik kau. Dia memang trafik kau.

                  99.6%
                  guna telefon bimbit, DOSM 2025
                  70%
                  purata cart ditinggalkan
                  2.5s
                  sasaran LCP atas mobile

Google dah terbitkan sasarannya, jadi tak payah berdebat.

Penghantaran Flat rate Zon, band berat, peraturan Sabah Sarawak
Kerja kelajuan Tiada Pipeline gambar, caching, Core Web Vitals diuji
Testing Satu order berjaya Payment gagal, refund, habis stok, order berbilang
Serah tugas Detail login Latihan, dokumentasi, tempoh sokongan

Julat kami sendiri ikut jadual tu.

                  4. Nyatakan siapa masuk data produk. Kalau developer, ia patut ada dalam quotation. Kalau kau, blok masa dalam kalendar.
                  5. Tanya apa jadi selepas launch. Siapa baiki checkout rosak pukul 9 malam Sabtu, dan berapa caj dia.
                  6. Minta senarai ujian.

Soalan lazim pasal reka bentuk website ecommerce Malaysia

Kenapa ramai sangat tinggalkan cart masa checkout?

Baymard Institute letak purata cart abandonment terdokumentasi pada 70.22%. Antara mereka yang sampai checkout, 40% sebut kos tambahan seperti pos dan fee, 19% tak percaya nak masuk detail kad, 18% tak suka dipaksa buka akaun, dan 17% rasa checkout terlalu panjang.

Berapa laju kedai online saya patut load?

                    • WooCommerce: kau kawal 100% data, kau tanggung 100% risiko teknikal.
                    • Shopify: risiko teknikal dia tanggung, tapi kau bayar sewa selama-lamanya.

Fi tu bukan ganti fi gateway, ia bertindih atas fi gateway.

Billplz Plugin rasmi, RM0.75 hingga RM1.25 setiap transaksi FPX Boleh, tapi kena tambah fi Shopify 2% (Basic)
toyyibPay Plugin rasmi di WordPress.org, popular untuk merchant kecil Tiada app rasmi setakat semakan kami
iPay88 (kini berjenama ADAPTIS) Plugin rasmi, approval merchant 1 hingga 4 minggu Ada, plus fi Shopify 2% (Basic)
senangPay (sedang berpindah ke DOKU Malaysia) Plugin rasmi Ada integrasi Shopify rasmi
Stripe Plugin rasmi, 3% campur RM1.00 Ada, plus fi Shopify 2% (Basic)

Kos platform sebenar naik lagi lapan peratus selepas SST

                    USD29-USD299
                    plan Shopify sebulan (bil tahunan)
                    RM20-RM100
                    hosting WooCommerce sebulan
                    8%
SST atas digital service luar negara

Kos setup sama, tapi kos maintain tak sama langsung

                    1. Kira volume dulu. Bawah 300 parcel sebulan, agregator biasanya cukup pada dua-dua platform.
                    2. Semak zon penghantaran.
                    3. Uji cetakan label sebelum go live.

Total cost of ownership tiga tahun memihak WooCommerce pada volume sederhana

Angka bulanan nampak kecil sampai kau darab tiga puluh enam.

Item kos (36 bulan) WooCommerce (agency maintain) Shopify Basic
Yuran platform RM0 Lebih kurang RM5,300 termasuk SST
Hosting RM2,160 pada RM60 sebulan Termasuk
App atau extension Lebih kurang RM1,500 sekali bayar Lebih kurang RM10,900 termasuk SST
Fi gateway Lebih kurang RM13,800 Lebih kurang RM10,800
                    Fi transaksi Shopify 2% RM0 RM21,600
Maintenance Lebih kurang RM9,000, ikut retainer RM0
Anggaran jumlah Lebih kurang RM26,500 Lebih kurang RM48,600
                    WooCommerce, kau maintain sendiriRM17,500
                    WooCommerce, agency maintainRM26,500
                    Shopify GrowRM47,000
                    Shopify BasicRM48,600

Migrate bukan sekadar export CSV.

                    • Fi transaksi kau melebihi kos hosting setahun penuh.

Cadangan ikut jenis business, tanpa berdolak-dalih

                    Ini panggilan kami.

                    Jenis business Pilih Sebab

Berapa lama nak setup kedai online guna WooCommerce vs Shopify?

Beza ni mengecil bila scope kedai jadi besar.

Website business standard (5-10 muka surat) ambil masa 3-4 minggu.

                      Ringkasan

                      • Landing page 1-3 muka surat: 1-2 minggu.
                      • Website business 5-10 muka surat: 3-4 minggu.
                      • Ecommerce basic bawah 50 produk: 4-6 minggu.

                      Content loading 2-3 hari Agency

Bukan sebab kerja tu berat, tapi sebab kesannya berantai. Copy homepage tak sampai, jadi design homepage tak boleh dimuktamadkan, jadi template dalaman tergendala, jadi build tak boleh mula.

Feedback lambat pun sama kesannya. Kalau setiap pusingan approval ambil seminggu dan projek ada tiga pusingan, kau baru sahaja tambah dua minggu pada timeline tanpa seorang pun buat kerja salah.

                      1-4 minggu
                      tambahan bila content lewat
                      24-48 jam
                      sasaran masa balas feedback
                      4-5 pusingan

Siapkan senarai di bawah sebelum kick-off, bukan selepas.

                      2. Teks setiap muka surat. About us, senarai servis atau produk, dan sebab kenapa orang patut pilih kau. Draf kasar pun memadai.
                      3. Gambar resolusi tinggi.
                      5. Maklumat syarikat. Nombor pendaftaran SSM, alamat penuh, telefon, email rasmi dan waktu operasi. Perlu untuk footer dan verification payment gateway.
                      6. Akses domain dan hosting. Login pendaftar domain dan hosting sedia ada. Kalau kau tak tahu di mana domain kau didaftarkan, cari sekarang.

Jenis Website Tempoh Siap Anggaran Kos
                      Landing page simple (1-3 muka surat) 1-2 minggu RM1,500 – RM3,500
                      Website business (5-10 muka surat) 3-4 minggu RM3,500 – RM8,000
Website custom (design dan fungsi khas) 4-8 minggu RM8,000+
                      Ecommerce basic (kurang 50 produk) 4-6 minggu RM4,000 – RM8,000
                      Ecommerce mid-size (payment dan courier integration) 6-10 minggu RM8,000 – RM20,000
                      Ecommerce custom platform 10 minggu+ RM20,000+
                      Landing page1-2 minggu
                      Website business3-4 minggu
                      Ecommerce basic4-6 minggu
                      Website custom4-8 minggu
                      Ecommerce mid-size6-10 minggu

Bila timeline dimampatkan, empat benda ni biasanya jadi mangsa.

Discovery dipendekkan. Website siap nampak kemas tapi tak jawab soalan sebenar customer, sebab tiada masa untuk tanya soalan tu.

Copy ditulis tergesa-gesa.

Cara pantaskan projek tanpa korbankan kualiti

                      1. Siapkan content sebelum kick-off.

Soalan lazim pasal timeline website business

Apa jadi kalau content aku lambat sampai?

Siapa patut jadi point of contact dari pihak business?
