Paid Ads for Malaysian Businesses

Google, Facebook, TikTok, Instagram Ads – costs, dashboards, and ROAS.

What paid ads are actually for

Paid ads buy attention now. SEO earns it over time. Ads stop the day you stop paying; search traffic keeps arriving after the work is done. Most Malaysian SMEs need both, usually in that order: ads to get cash flowing this quarter, SEO so the cost per lead falls next year.

The mistake is treating ads as a permanent substitute for demand. If nobody wants what you sell at the price you sell it, ads make that fact arrive faster and more expensively.

Google, Meta or TikTok first

Google captures intent that already exists. Someone is searching for what you sell right now. Higher cost per click, warmer buyer, shorter path to a sale.

Meta and TikTok create demand. Nobody was looking for you. Cheaper attention, colder audience, more work for the creative to do.

Rule of thumb: if people search for your category, start on Google. If they do not know the product exists, start on Meta or TikTok. The longer version is in Google Ads vs Facebook Ads and, in Malay, mana patut pilih dulu.

What it costs

Two numbers, and they are separate. Media spend goes from your card straight to the platform. Management is either 15 to 20 per cent of that spend or a flat fee, whichever is fairer at your budget size. Our clients typically run RM1,500 to RM10,000 a month in media. Management pricing is on the pricing page.

Be realistic about small budgets. Below a few thousand ringgit a month the data arrives slowly, which means testing takes longer and the first months are mostly learning. That is not a reason to avoid ads, but it is a reason to expect a slower read. Cost breakdowns by platform: Google Ads, Facebook Ads, TikTok Ads.

The numbers that matter

Reach and likes tell you nothing about whether the money worked. Two numbers do. Cost per lead tells you what a genuine enquiry costs you. ROAS tells you what each ringgit of spend returned. If an agency reports impressions before it reports either of these, ask why.

Start here: apa itu lead dan kenapa CPL lebih penting dari likes, apa itu ROAS yang bagus, and the English version, what is a good ROAS for Malaysian campaigns.

Where budgets get burned

Broad match with no negative keywords. You pay for searches that were never going to buy. See how match type burns budget.

No conversion tracking. The algorithm optimises for whatever you told it to optimise for. Tell it nothing useful and it will get very good at producing the wrong thing.

Boosting posts instead of running campaigns. Boosting is the platform selling you reach. It is not a campaign structure and it cannot be optimised properly.

Traffic sent to a homepage. A homepage asks the visitor to work out where to go next. A landing page asks them to do one thing. See high-converting landing pages.

Changing everything daily. Campaigns need a learning period. Editing before it finishes resets the learning and you pay for it twice.
